10-Year Health Plan and Life Sciences Sector Plan

The UK Government has announced two transformative strategies - the NHS 10-Year Plan and the Life Sciences Sector Plan - setting the stage for a bold, innovation-led future in health and care.

Published in July 2025, the NHS 10-Year Plan presents a reimagined model of care rooted in science, technology, and patient empowerment. It aims to make the NHS the world’s most AI-enabled health system, leveraging genomics, precision medicine, and digital solutions to shift from reactive treatment to proactive prevention. Core priorities include:

  • Delivering care closer to home
  • Replacing analogue systems with digital infrastructure
  • Supporting earlier diagnosis, personalised treatment, and workforce innovation

The plan also identifies five key areas - referred to as the ‘five big bets’ - where innovation can make the most significant contribution:

  1. Early Diagnosis: Improving detection rates and outcomes
  2. Personalised Care: Tailoring treatments to individual needs
  3. Digital Health: Empowering patients and clinicians through tech
  4. Data-Driven Improvement: Informing better decisions across the system
  5. Supporting the Workforce: Equipping NHS staff with innovative tools and approaches

Complementing this, the Life Sciences Sector Plan positions the UK as Europe’s leading health innovation economy by 2030. It accelerates technology development, expands advanced manufacturing, and fosters collaboration between the NHS, academia, and industry.

Together, these strategies mark an opportunity to embed innovation into every layer of the healthcare system - driving better outcomes, reducing inequalities, and promoting long-term sustainability.
