About the NHS Innovation Service

The NHS is a large and complex system. Introducing new products and technologies can be challenging. Innovators must demonstrate the value of their healthcare product and navigate complex regulatory and procurement processes. For the NHS, finding new innovations that meet its needs can be equally difficult.

The NHS Innovation Service is a free, online platform created to solve both problems. It provides a centralised front door for healthcare innovations that have potential use in the NHS, matching them to relevant organisations to provide tailored support.

The NHS Innovation Service can provide support for any healthcare innovation that will impact service provision or delivery of care and could be purchased or adopted by the NHS. Innovations which fall outside of this scope may not be able to receive support via this service.

How it works

  1. Step 1
Create an account and sign in

To create an account, all you'll need is your email address and a password. The first time you sign in to your account, you'll be asked a few questions about your innovation.

  2. Step 2
    Fill out your innovation record

To help us match you with organisations that can support you, you'll need to answer questions across the 8 sections of your innovation record. This is a live document and you can update it at any time, even after submitting it for a needs assessment.

  3. Step 3
Submit your innovation for a needs assessment

Once submitted, our team will review your innovation record to understand your current needs. Then they will notify appropriate organisations, who can offer you tailored support based on your type of innovation and the stage in your journey.

  4. Step 4
    Get the support you need

If there's a suitable organisation, they'll contact you to offer advice and support. You may be matched with more than one support organisation. If the support organisations need any more information from you, they can message you and request actions through the service.

  5. Step 5
Update your innovation record as you progress

As you develop your idea, regularly update your innovation record. This way, the organisations that support you will have the most recent information and be able to give you advice that is specific to your innovation's stage of development.
