Clinical area: Mental health - Self-management digital therapeutics for adults with common mental health problems that can be accessed by self-referral or following clinician referral

Why:

  • One in four adults experiences at least one diagnosable mental health problem in any given year. People in all walks of life can be affected and at any point in their lives. Mental health problems represent the largest single cause of disability in the UK.
  • The number of people in England who are in contact with mental health services is growing rapidly. In February 2021 the total figure stood at 1.38 million, by November 2023 this figure had increased to 1.86 million. With approximately 42,000 new referrals each month, this is creating significant pressure on the NHS.
